‘Paella Evolutiva’, The Valencian Paella for Today and for Sharing with the World

Ever since Paella Valenciana was abused by chefs abroad like Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsey, and Cataluña claimed it as their own, chefs and locals living in Valencia have fought hard to establish the Valencian Communities’ favourite dish both in terms of ownership but also its ingredients and the manner of cooking. VÍ Vid has been there since the beginning of this campaign: with the 10 chefs who originally tried to get a DO for Paella Valenciana, with Paco Alonso and subsequently []

VÍ Vid Reviews the forthcoming Gastronomy Competitions.

We have reflected before on the growing number of Gastronomy Competitions in the Valencian Community being introduced as a means of publicising both local traditional dishes and maximising tourism from it, something supported by the Valencian Government and local town halls….and popular with tourists, 73% of whom come to Valencia for the local food and wine.   We have already reported on two `Concursos´held earlier this year which were in their second editions, in Cullera and Betera. VÍ Vid Returns to Kiko Port, Oliva.

VÍ Vid with ASEV at La Maritima tasting Bodega Tradición Sherries.

As a number of our colleagues have pointed out, Spring and Sherry goes together. The Jerez region of Spain holds its Sherry Festival every other year in Spring and last year Valencia hosted International Sherry Week in Las Arenas Hotel. This year it is the turn of ASEV, the Valencian Sumilleres and Winelovers Association and its President Marilú Martin  to host an event – a tasting of the sherries and brandy from Bodegas Tradición in La Maritima, the restaurant in Valencia´s iconic []
