London has had its RAW wine fair for some time but this is the first wine fair dedicated to `Singular´wines, (Ecologic or Biodynamic, natural wines where respect for the environment, recovery of lost varieties of vines and special handling in the winery are the key considerations for the winemaker) to be held in Valencia. These wines deserved to be presented in a special location and the RiuRau del Senyoret in the village of Jesus Pobre, close to Javea was chosen by the […]

It was interesting to read a plea from the distributor of three of Valencia´s newest Vermuts for more coordination of events related to wine and food in the region. This week saw us invited to at least five events, June has always been a manic month for new product launches, new menu events, International food Competitions and our normal work carries on! La Viña. We started the week with a visit to Bodega La Viña in Font de la Figuera in DO […]

VÍ Vid were very pleased to be able to attend the Salon Profesiónal in Denia this week and taste the new crop of wines from DO Alicante. The tasting was held in the Cdt of the Marina Alta. 18 Bodegas attended and this is a selection of the wines which impressed us. David Carbonell has been making wines from Viognier (and other varieties) at Vins del Comtat for as long as we have known the bodega and was a pioneer of producing […]

As a number of our colleagues have pointed out, Spring and Sherry goes together. The Jerez region of Spain holds its Sherry Festival every other year in Spring and last year Valencia hosted International Sherry Week in Las Arenas Hotel. This year it is the turn of ASEV, the Valencian Sumilleres and Winelovers Association and its President Marilú Martin to host an event – a tasting of the sherries and brandy from Bodegas Tradición in La Maritima, the restaurant in Valencia´s iconic […]

Oliva and its sister town of Pego sit astride the boundary between the Marina Alta of Alicante and the La Safor of Valencia Province. Pego is inland without a border on the sea whilst old Oliva with its rural traditions is inland, `new Oliva´ is between the sea and the old town with its new developments, sports port and restaurants. It was to Kiko Port on the urbanisation of the same name by Oliva´s dunes and sailing port that we were drawn […]

Around the end of January 2014 we visited a new Bodega in El Azagador, a hamlet of nearby Requena, to see the new facilities which had risen on the site of the old local cooperative. It seems this hamlet may be the home to a family of phoenixes. Last week we visited the new Bodegas Vibe which has literally arisen on the site of the old Bodegas Torroja which we reported on in January 2010. Vibe is a new project, based very […]

What looks as though it could be a busy February got of to a quick start with a visit to Bodegas Baronia de Turis. The bodega is fast approaching its 100th anniversary having been built in 1920 and is still in the original building. Joan Picó, winemaker at the bodega explained that they were still using the old structure but were adapting it continually to house the latest technology. Currently the bodega has 1500 members with about the same number of hectares […]
