Albacete promotes its Gastronomy in Denia – A VÍ Vid Report.

The event ‘Albacete Sabor de Interior–Alma de Mediterráneo’, which was held in Denia on Tuesday, 18 November, stands as a vibrant celebration of the rich culinary traditions of the Albacete province, blending the hearty flavours of Spain’s interior with the freshness and vitality of the Mediterranean. This gastronomic gathering brought together local producers, renowned chefs, and food enthusiasts to honour the region’s unique heritage, innovation, and passion for fine cuisine.

Albacete, located in the heart of Castilla-La Mancha, is famed for its fertile plains, exceptional produce, and deep-rooted culinary customs. The event’s title, translating to ‘Flavour of the Interior–With a  Mediterranean soul’, captured its essence: a harmonious blend between the robust, earthy tastes of inland Spain and the lighter, aromatic influences of Mediterranean cooking. The guests were treated to a diverse array of dishes that reflect this fusion— from traditional Manchego cheeses and local wines to seafood-infused specialities and innovative reinterpretations of classic recipes.

Central to the event was a showcase of the region’s finest ingredients. Artisans and producers presented their best cheeses, truffles, mushrooms, lamb, olives, etc and  acclaimed chefs presented  Albacete dishes as follows:-

Aperitifs   ‘Explosión de aceituna Picual’ ‘Champiñón de higadillo de pollo,’ by Pedro Marlo of Restaurante Marlo

A tasting of cheeses by Julián Olivas of DOP Quesos de Manchego.

‘Setas mantecadas en su escabeche y huevo a baja temperatura’,  Carlos Arjana of Restaurante La Bonita.

‘Blini Atascaburras’ (a traditional cod and potato mash), Antonio Cuerda of Restaurante Cuerda.

‘Versión de la Trucha a la Serrana’ Pedro Marlo, from Restaurante Marlo.

‘Carré de Cordero Manchego y huesos rotos’ Rafael Herrero, Restaurante Dallas.

‘Almendra-Azafrán-Chocolate’ José Manuel García, Pastelería La Nueva Estella

The dishes were accompanied by wines from ‘Entre Lindes, (Villarobledo) IGP Tierra de Castillo and were a blend of Airen and Macabeo (white) and Cencibel (Tempranillo-Red). Both were fresh and fruity with a Mediterranean flavour and the freshness of the Interior.

The event was presented by Maje Martinez, who organises’ Gastronóma Mediterraneo’, the best gastronomic fair in the whole of Spain and was held in ‘Els Magazinos’ in Denia. It was hosted by Rosa Gonzaléz, Tourism Councillor for the City of Albacete, and the Provincial  Association of Hostelry and Tourism. There was also a welcome from the Mayor of Denia, Vicent Grimalt.

By uniting the best of inland and coastal influences, ‘Albacete Sabor de Interior–Alma de Mediterráneo’ encapsulated the diversity and vibrancy of Spanish cuisine. This event offered a memorable journey through the flavours, aromas, and traditions of Albacete—a true taste of Spain’s heart and the soul of the Mediterranean.
